African Garden + winter

Oh, frabjous day!

For weeks the buds slowly grew and swelled. Finally, for the first time, the redbud (Cercis canadensis) is blooming. It was just a little twig of a thing when I planted it a few years ago, dug up by the squirrels and replanted. A heavy snow bent it that first winter, but now it's a glorious spring of blossoms.

Not bad for a little tree that had scale problems last summer.
