Phlox paniculata 'David' after grooming
You've probably heard all the hype about Phlox paniculata 'David,' how it's mildew resistant, supposed to be the "best Phlox" and all that, but what the catalogues never mention is how ugly it is unless groomed daily.
'David' pre-daily deadheading
I just hate the icky brown faded blooms. They completely ruin the effect. Phlox of other colors age much more gracefully.

The equally mildew-resistant Phlox paniculata 'Nicky' isn't nearly as unsightly ungroomed.
Even Phlox 'David's Lavender' looks better. I'm thinking it's time to get that prima donna 'David' out of there and replace it with a less needy Phlox paniculata.
What's your favorite Phlox paniculata?
