Morning Jewels

Oh, to be in the Northwest Suburbs in the springtime! It has been absolutely glorious here. Yesterday morning dawned with a heavy dew, leaving tiny, temporary jewels glittering across the garden. The above pictured Alchemilla mollis foliage is legendary for its ability to hold dew drops. What I did not realize is how many other plants are nearly as good, such as this Brunnera 'Jack Frost,'

or Aquilegia 'Leprechaun Gold.'

One needs to look closely to find these little gems in such odd places

(here on the tips of Solomon's Plume (Maianthemum racemosum/Smilacina racemosa)

(and here on Corydalis 'Blackberry Wine'). Beauty within the larger beauty of the garden.
Outside of the garden, the air is heavy with the perfume of Lilac and Crabapple blooms. It is delightful to go for a walk now, breathing in the scent. Here are a few examples that I saw while walking the kids to school.

Happy Mother's Day!
